Business leader strides for heart healthier community

The American Heart Association is pleased to have Jim Turnbaugh, Vice President of Turnbaugh Insurance Agency chair the 2015 Vermont Heart Walk.

In this role, Turnbaugh has provided volunteer leadership for corporate involvement of Heart Walk teams and sponsorships. “The Heart Walk plays an important role in our region’s ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke, and raises awareness about living stronger, healthier lives,” said Jim Turnbaugh.  “Not only do we strive to be good community partners at Turnbaugh Insurance, we hope to set an example for other businesses to participate in the walk and encourage others to join us in supporting the American Heart Association and its efforts.”

Heart disease and stroke combined remain the leading cause of death and disability.  Each year, these diseases kill more than 787,000 people in the county.  Physical activity, like walking, has great health benefits.

The Heart Walk is a key component of the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. health, wellness and fitness platform developed to empower Americans to get healthier.  Local businesses and organizations can help support the Heart Walk by forming company teams and and/or by becoming sponsors.

In addition to promoting heart-healthy lifestyles and raising critical funds for life-saving research and education, the Heart Walk celebrates survivors and remembers loved ones lost to heart disease and stroke.

The Vermont Heart Walk is set for September 26th at Oakledge Park in Burlington. Registration and activities begin at 8:30am. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:15am
